Thinking of booking a Cake Smash session?
Now, more than ever, cake smash sessions are super popular to celebrate a baby's first year! Have you wondered what a cake smash session works when you book with me? This blog post will walk you step by step on what to expect.
First Year Portraits
The portrait sessions starts with the "First Year Portraits". These are images without the cake in a simple white set with minimal props. I include sitting/standing props and a toy. The goal is to create timeless and classic portraits. This segment of the session also gives the child time to get used to the studio and the studio lighting before we introduce the cake!
Cake Smash Portraits
After the baby is in a good mood and comfortable with the camera and surroundings, we introduce the cake! Don't be alarmed if the baby destroys the cake - it's exactly what they should do! This is the most exciting part of the session and you will be laughing right along with your baby. I just focus on taking portraits as the baby discovers the cake and frosting.
Splash Portraits
The final set of images are of the baby taking a "bath" right after they get messy smashing the cake! These are also done in the white set with minimal props. We can add warm water or just go without water if that is your preference.
